Prior to the existence of the electric refrigerator there was the wooden ice box which kept food cold with a large block of ice that was placed in a compartment at the top of the ice box. As the ice melted the water ran into a pail or pan underneath the ice box and had to be disposed of by pouring it into a sink or toilet. The first electric refrigerator, which was cooled by air, surfaced in 1913 and was made to sit on top of the ice box. The actual electric cooling coil was made in 1915. The first electric refrigerator as we know it came to the market in 1919. In the 1950's the first modern refrigerator became an important fixture in the then modern kitchen.

What is the retro Fridge? The retro refrigerator is one that has the look of the 1950's but all of the amenities of the modern refrigerator. The retro fridge has a stamped metal body and an authentic chrome trim. It has a total capacity of 20.9 cubic ft. which breaks down to 14.5 cubic ft. of refrigerator capacity and 6.4 cubic ft of freezer capacity. It has been said that everything old is new again and the retro fridge is no exception. Many modern housewives are going back to the look of the 1950's in their kitchens. The retro appliances with its modern amenities is the perfect appliance for the lover of the 1950's look. It has the 50's look but it's really new.
